Respite Educator

Brief description of the position

Reporting directly to the PhilouLIFE manager – Employees, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for taking care of polyimpaired children between the ages of 0 and 21 who are staying at Centre Philou for respite, while promoting their development and providing stimulation adapted to their needs.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

  • Experience : 0-2 years
  • Status: Part time and full time
  • Must be available evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 17h/week – to full time during Summer
  • Specialized training is given to staff
  • Salary: $20/hour

Key Responsibilities

Child Relationship

    • 1:1 ratio (child/educator)
    • Ensure the well-being of the child during his or her stay
    • Follow the child’s daily schedule, taking into account his or her particularities
    • Prepare meals and assist with feeding according to level of independence
    • Prepare games and stimulation activities for the child
    • Prepare and administer medications
    • Give hygiene care (diaper changes, tooth brushing, etc.)
    • Keep the child’s folder up to date
    • Ensure the child’s safety when traveling

Relation with Parents

    • Wash the child’s clothes and clean personal belongings
    • Prepare your luggage for departure
    • Answer parents’ questions during the stay
    • Provide a summary of the stay to parents

Relation with Centre Philou

    • Maintain a clean and disinfected work environment
    • Complete the cleaning tasks
    • Participate in management meetings and the continuing education program


  • Collaborative spirit, empathy, sense of organization and priorities, autonomy
  • Mastery of the spoken and written French language
  • Spoken and written English (an asset)
  • Secondary 5 completed
  • Academic background in a discipline related to the helping relationship (an asset)
  • Knowledge of polyimpaired clientele (an asset)
