Schedule: weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Job summary
At Philou School, each student is accompanied at all times by an educational assistant in a 1:1 ratio. It is this person who puts the intervention plan into practice through various personalized activities (music, plastic arts, motor development, computer lab, cooking workshops, black/white room, outings, group activities, etc.).
The educational assistant is paid directly by the student, but Centre Philou is responsible for hiring and training the educational assistants.
Main functions
- Following a polyimpaired student through his or her school year
- Work with the student on his or her interdisciplinary intervention plan
- Follow the recommendations of the various professionals
- Work as a team with teachers, professionals and other educational assistants
- Take notes on the progress of objectives Attendance at report card meetings
- Assist students with daily living activities (eating, hygiene, etc.) *The majority of students in the program are completely dependent on adults for all activities of daily living.
- Give the student the necessary medication (as needed)

To enhance families’ quality of life, the Centre offers overnight Respite stays, a specialized School for young adults, a Daycare center for children with developmental delays, and ongoing family support. Philou School offers an educational program for polyimpaired young adults aged 21 to 29, in partnership with the Centre de ressources éducatives et pédagogiques (CREP) of the Commission scolaire de Montréal. At Philou School, the concept of class is deconstructed to put the student first. Students in the program are assessed at the beginning of the year by a team of professionals (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychoeducator) in order to develop an interdisciplinary intervention plan.
